There are always going to be people who just don’t get who you are.

You know the ones, they pre-judge and speak to you from a place of knowing.

They try to tell you who you are. Speak down at you from way on high.

They crinkle their noses and squint their eyes, staring at you with the face that says you’re speaking gibberish.

All of this can feel like a sign that you should stay small, and unseen – demure and in your place where you don’t question things.

It can feel like the Real You is not welcome in the world.

Like, somehow, if people knew the Real You, they’d flee the scene screaming.

So you nip and tuck little parts of yourself away, folding yourself into something more palatable to the masses. It’s so painful to do this to ourselves. Like a little soul murder, one tablespoon at a time.

Meanwhile, the Real You is knocking at your heart, asking to be let out.

You’re beautiful exactly as you are – no need to change to fit anyone else’s mold.

Just be yourself – it’s the easiest and most effortless you there is to be.

Yes, you might have to learn to deal with people not being happy with you. Still, isn’t that a better thing to learn than trying to keep yourself small so that you can have other people’s approval?

Be who you are. It’s the only YOU that you can be. If you don’t know who that is, then it’s time to get to know yourself.

You can start with the small little things like, you love strawberries with cream and your favorite tv show is the X-Files but you cannot stand mushrooms. This is a good start. Then you can move on to bigger and more exciting topics such as what kind of person gets to be your friend or who will be blessed enough to take you on a date? You can literally list out the attributes! OOH so exciting! When you stop worrying about what other people will think, life gets pretty good.

But just in case I didn’t make myself clear, you WILL have to face the dragon of fear of your not belonging or fitting in.

Yep, walk right into that dragon’s lair and sit down and have a little tea together.

You know, too many people talk about slaying the dragon. Slay the dragon! Slay the dragon!, they say. Yikes, if you kill that dragon dead, how will you ever find out what is really going on? Maybe that dragon has secrets to tell you… do not kill that dragon! Make peace with that dragon 🙂

Who says you can’t do life according to your own way? Who? Who made you feel like you couldn’t shine bright, exactly as you are?

I can guarantee they made a mistake! They passed on some misinformation which I hereby invite you to chuck! That’s right, I said chuck it!

From now on, you get to decide what matters.

Because, the truth is, there is a little sliver of the Universe that you and you alone rule. You must contribute your sparkles to the world, in exactly the way that you do… otherwise the world will be a little out of balance. And you wouldn’t want that to happen, would you?
